If you have lived in Redmond for more than a summer, you already know Derby Days is coming. What you may not have noticed is that this year the city stacked almost everything else on top of it. The World Cup Final viewing, the biggest Marymoor concert weekend, the drone show, the arts festival at Redmond Town Center, and the Kids Bike Parade all land inside a single ten-day window between July 19 and August 2. That is not accidental scheduling. That is your July.
The thesis, in one paragraph
Most Redmond summer roundups you have seen this month treat these as separate events on separate calendars. Read the city's own press language and a different picture appears: the City of Redmond announced that Derby Days is being positioned as the celebration that follows the World Cup Final, and Marymoor Live booked a Meet Me at Marymoor Final viewing party on Sunday, July 19 to sit right in front of it. Redmond Town Center then opens the VALA Redmond Arts Festival the weekend after Derby Days ends. Once you see the ten days as one connected sequence, the useful question stops being "what should we do this weekend" and becomes "which clusters do we walk to, and which do we skip."
The ten-day map
| Date | Event | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Sun, Jul 19 | Meet Me at Marymoor Soccer Final Celebration | Marymoor Live |
| Fri, Jul 24 | Derby Days opens, velodrome racing, Kiddie Kilo | City Hall + Jerry Baker Memorial Velodrome |
| Sat, Jul 25 | Kids Bike Parade, Grand Parade, Urban Craft Uprising fair, drone show | City Hall campus |
| Sat, Jul 25 | Young the Giant with Cold War Kids and Beach Weather | Marymoor Live |
| Fri, Jul 31 | Slightly Stoopid, Road Trippin' Summer Tour | Marymoor Live |
| Jul 31 to Aug 2 | 15th Annual Redmond Arts Festival | Redmond Town Center |
Six of those seven anchors sit inside about a two-mile radius of Downtown Park. That is the part worth planning around.
Why the schedule looks this way
The city put its own framing on the calendar. In its April 30 announcement, Mayor Angela Birney described Derby Days as a chance for neighbors and families to gather, and the release explicitly frames the festival as arriving "following the excitement of the World Cup Final." That is a deliberate handoff. The same release confirms that the Saturday night drone show, presented by Amazon, will send more than 100 drones over City Hall in a choreographed display.
If you moved to Redmond during Microsoft's Commons build-out and remember Derby Days as a bike race and a parade, the sponsor list alone is a useful update: Microsoft, EvergreenHealth, Redmond Town Center, Ballard Natural Gas, the Jerry Baker Memorial Velodrome, and Cascade Water Alliance are all named backers this year. That is a broader civic footprint than the event carried a decade ago, and it explains why the programming has widened into a full weekend rather than a Saturday afternoon.
What is actually new in 2026
Skip this section if you have been every year. If it has been a few summers, these are the changes worth knowing about before you show up:
- A Silent Disco has been added to the City Hall campus lineup.
- The Derby Days Kids' Cove is new, with bounce houses and a splash pad. Admission is five dollars per child, paid on arrival.
- The drone show is the Saturday night closer, replacing what used to be a much smaller light moment.
- Urban Craft Uprising is running the Saturday craft market. If you have shopped their Magnuson Park show in Seattle, expect the same vendor caliber, not the standard festival tent lineup.
- Food this year leans into what the city's Derby Days page lists as dumplings, bratwurst, and boba, alongside the beer and wine garden.
The Kids' Cove fee is the one detail people miss. Everything else on the City Hall campus is free to walk into.
The Marymoor question
Marymoor Live's July schedule is the reason your neighbors have been arguing about parking. The venue's own calendar confirms three consecutive weekends of major shows: Young the Giant with Cold War Kids and Beach Weather on Saturday, July 25, Slightly Stoopid's Road Trippin' Summer Tour on Friday, July 31, and ZZ Top with Cheap Trick on Tuesday, August 11. The July 25 concert is the friction point because it lands on Derby Days Saturday. If you live off West Lake Sammamish Parkway or anywhere along the Sammamish River Trail approach to Marymoor, expect the trail to be your fastest route into downtown that afternoon, not the car.
The KeyBank Outdoor Movies at Marymoor series is also running its 22nd season inside the same park through August. Tickets are ten dollars plus a two dollar fifty cent King County Park Maintenance fee, kids five and under are free, and dogs on leash are welcome. That last detail is the reason the movie nights function as a low-stress alternative when the concert crowd feels like too much.
Walking clusters, if you are trying to do more than one thing
The stacking only helps if you route yourself smartly. Two clusters do most of the work.
The City Hall cluster covers Derby Days on the municipal campus and the velodrome races at Jerry Baker Memorial Velodrome. The city's schedule has the Friday evening main stage running at City Hall at the same time the cyclists take to the track at Marymoor, with the Kiddie Kilo giving younger riders their moment before the beer garden and food trucks fill in the evening. Saturday morning belongs to the Kids Bike Parade first, then the Grand Parade, then the craft market and food. Saturday night is the drone show. If you have kids under ten, that is the entire day.
The Redmond Town Center cluster is a different pace. VALA Eastside and Redmond Town Center are presenting the 15th Annual Redmond Arts Festival July 31 through August 2, with more than 60 artists showing paintings, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, photography, and mixed media in the outdoor courtyard. Live music runs on the EvergreenHealth Music Stage across the weekend, and the festival notes more than 25 onsite cafes and restaurants within walking distance. This is the weekend you invite the friend who does not do carnival rides. Follow-up viewing happens at the VALA Art Center at 8020 161st Avenue NE, across from Downtown Park, with a closing reception on Sunday, August 2 from 2 to 3 p.m.
The two clusters do not overlap by a single day, which is unusual for a Redmond summer and worth taking advantage of.
The pieces most residents get wrong
A few practical calls, based on how the schedule actually reads:
- If you are going to the Grand Parade on Saturday, July 25, plan to stay through the drone show that night instead of driving home and coming back. The parking turnover between afternoon and evening at City Hall is the annual bottleneck.
- If you are going to Young the Giant at Marymoor that same night, do not try to also do the drone show. They start too close together and sit on opposite ends of the traffic pattern.
- Register kids for the Kids Bike Parade in advance through the city's Derby Days page. Kids up to age 17 can decorate and ride, per 425 Magazine's July 15 preview, so it is not only a small-child event.
- The Arts Festival is the answer for the weekend after Derby Days, when the campus has cleared out and Redmond Town Center is easier to park at than the concert weekends before it.
- If you have out-of-town family visiting during the World Cup Final window, the Meet Me at Marymoor viewing on July 19 is the Redmond-specific thing to bring them to, not a downtown Seattle bar.
Why this year matters more than most
Derby Days started in 1940 as a bike derby and parade to raise money for holiday decorations and athletic equipment. That origin story is the reason the velodrome races are still on the schedule when nothing else in the region programs one, and it is the reason the Kids Bike Parade sits at the emotional center of Saturday. The city has been careful about that thread even as the sponsors and the drone show scaled up.
What has changed in 2026 is the density around it. Marymoor Live's summer amphitheater season is the largest it has been, the Arts Festival is at its 15th year and pulling more than 60 artists, and the World Cup Final gave the city a reason to open the ten-day window with something it did not have before. If you moved here recently and skipped Derby Days last year because it felt small on paper, this is the year to walk down and see it. If you have been here fifteen years, the changes at City Hall are enough that the Saturday evening lineup will not look like the one you remember.
That is the argument. The ten days between July 19 and August 2 are not a coincidence, and they are not a to-do list. They are a single stretched-out weekend, and Redmond does not usually put this much on one calendar.
